The deeply religious Duggar family (as in the 19 Kids and Counting Duggars) were the victims of an extortion attempt several months back. On Thursday a judge sentenced Teresa Hunt to four months of house arrest for attempting the crime.

According to a report from RadarOnline, Hunt claimed that the Duggar’s cousin, Amy Duggar, was having an illicit affair with singer James Garrett. It turns out a grudge Hunt held over a payment dispute for professional photography s19 Kids and Countinghe did for Garrett triggered the senseless criminal act.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are the parents of nineteen children and the grandparents of a granddaughter and a grandson. They live highly moral lives as does their extended family including cousin Amy Duggar. Hunt very clearly knew her allegations could wreak havoc for the entire Duggar family, but what she didn’t understand was their strong faith in God and in one another. The Duggar’s knew Amy didn’t do what Hunt claimed. James Garrett even came to her defense with a series of photos that showed the only relationship the two shared was a musical one.

Do you think Teresa Hunt’s sentence is harsh enough for the crime she tried committing? After an attempt at extorting $10,000 from the Duggars and Discovery Communications—the company that owns the TLC network on which 19 Kids and Counting appears—it seems she’s been let off the hook very easily.
